Acorn Technologies is an Intellectual Property (IP) development and commercialization company.

Acorn engages in the development of inventions with significant commercial potential. We commercialize technologies that reside in companies and university IP portfolios. We also do development, licensing and sales of intellectual property. Our core competencies include research and development, business development, IP portfolio analysis, and patent transactions. Our company includes a team of senior scientists, engineers, and strong business leaders with substantial experience in technology commercialization, either through venture backed models, or licensing routes.

Since its origin 12 years ago, Acorn has built a substantial patent portfolio of its own predominantly in the Semiconductor and Telecom arena. These technologies are targeted at the leading edge of both Industries offering substantial benefits in terms of performance for semiconductor chips and 4G LTE, WiMax cellular networks.

Business Model

The traditional way to bring a technology or idea to market is through the formation of a new company with venture funding. Yet, getting venture financing for technologies that are oriented to mature and established markets is problematical. Furthermore some technologies are so immature relative to their requirements for commercialization that achieving adequate financing and more importantly expertise is very difficult. This is even more true in a tough economy that limits the number of exits for venture backed companies.
The Acorn approach is to leverage our internal and networked expertise, which consists of nationally renowned technologists/inventors and business people to add value to the development of early stage technologies followed by commercialization through licensing or company formation.
